Match Report for Boxmoor v Potten End on 12/09/09
A Double Escape
Potten End had a double escape as they beat Boxmoor by 87 runs at St Johns Road Oval, on a lovely warm September day.
With the score at 9-2, in-form Peter Raeburn was dropped off a difficult chance at wide mid-on, and went on to score his 3rd century (117)
in as many weeks as the Enders closed on "Double Nelson", 222-8 after 40 overs. After Pete's escape, the Enders slumped to 42-4, but a 62
run partnership with Paddy Ashton (23) helped rebuild the innings and set a daunting total.
The second big escape came on 39 overs when the Gingers (Matt and dad Tony) narrowly missed being injured by a runaway driverless car
which came on to the pitch, with its owner in the nearby Steamcoach! Play was held up until the the owner came and removed the car from
the outfield.
In reply Boxmoor started well, putting on 31 for the first wicket, but then wickets fell at regular intervals as they were bowled out
in 34 overs for just 135. Ian Dyde was the pick of the bowlers with 3-27 from five overs. Adam Hyland and Craig Hill got two wickets
apiece as the Enders cruised to an emphatic victory.
